I had the most inspirational day yesterday ( Saturday). It began as North Stonington First Selectman Nick Mullane and I held a Food Drive at Stop & Shop on Rt. 2 in Pawcatuck. We heard the food pantry needed food and Nick contacted me about working together to host the drive. It was amazing! So many individuals donated food and gave us donations towards this worthy cause. People left full shopping carts for us, we received 10 frozen turkeys, Stop & Shop donated a GPS for PNC to raffle off, People’s Bank employees collected food and several people provided gift cards for more food. We were able to fill 2 1/2 pick-up trucks of food and donations for the Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center! This year the PNC have already had requests for over 400 Holiday meals for needy families. It was an amazing event that we both look forward to doing again.
That evening, my family and I attended the Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser in honor of the Hespeler family who lost there home in the Borough fire. Over 300 people came out to attend the dinner. Steak Loft, M&M Catering, and Westerly Elks donated the food. Karen, the Tavares Family, and a number of SHS High School students coordinated the event. There were many donations of furniture, clothes, and a terrific raffle. The family appreciated all the outpouring of support and have been so resilient through this tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers continue to go out to them.
I have to say this was an amazing day in my life. We are blessed to have such a caring and loving community. I am so proud of my community and it is such an honor and privilege to live here!
